DNA from a crime scene can now be used to reconstruct the corresponding person’s face, sex, age, eye colour, height and weight by utilizing computational genomics. Computational genomics uses machine learning to mine the vast data banks of gene sequencing to make fairly accurate predictions regarding how genes will manifest in an individual. Although, we are not aware of any police services that are utilizing this technology, it is reasonable to assume that crime labs in Canada will be adopting computation genomics as a forensic tool in the near future.
